Porsche all-electric 911 to use solid-state batteries

Porsche is believed to be working on its all-electric 911, as part of its plan to transform itself into a mega electric vehicle (EV) company — powered by solid-state batteries — within a decade. 

The upcoming Porsche 911 EV may come with the lithium metal solid-state battery supplied by QuantumScape.

Kia set to drive EV6 into India by June

Yet another automaker, Kia Corporation of South Korea, is planning to drive its first global electric vehicle (EV) — the EV6 — into India by June this year.

Right now, Kia is tight-lipped about the pricing in India. The EV6 car carries a price tag of around $40,000-$50,000 in South Korea.

Komaki launches DT 3000 in India

Komaki’s electric vehicle (EV) division has launched its third offering in India this year — the Komaki DT 3000 — after it had rolled out the Ranger motorcycle and Venice e-scooter. The DT 3000 is available at its dealerships across the country.

Komaki DT 3000 will be propelled by a powerful 3,000-Watt BLDC motor and comes with a patented highly-advanced lithium battery of 62V52AH.

Tesla rival Triton to manufacture cars in Gujarat

Tesla’s rival and electric vehicle (EV) maker Triton Electric Vehicle has opted for Gujarat to manufacture its electric cars in India. 

The American auto giant said it will set up the factory in an area spread across 600 acres. The plant will be a three million square feet facility, according to Himanshu Patel, chief executive officer (CEO) and founder of the EV company.

Suzuki to invest $1.3 bn for making EVs in India

Suzuki Motor is now giving a big push to its electric vehicle (EV) plans in India with the Japanese company lining up an investment of a whopping $1.3 billion (Rs 10,000 crore) into the Maruti Suzuki factory. 

The factory is set to manufacture e-cars as well as batteries. With Maruti’s entry into the EV space, competition is set to intensify in the affordable car market in India as well as in the sedan and SUV segments.

India gets first hydrogen car Toyota Mirai | Differences between hydrogen car and EV

India’s Union minister Nitin Gadkari recently launched the country’s first hydrogen fuel car the Toyota Mirai, which is a Green Hydrogen Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV), and the question that immediately comes to one’s mind is how different are electric vehicles (EVs) compared to FCEVs?

The Toyota Mirai has achieved a big feat, holding the Guinness Book of World Record for running 1,359 km (850 miles) on a single tank. It is the greenest car in the world. The Mirai comes with an EPA-certified mileage of 650 km (405 miles) on a single tank.

Ford may use India unit for domestic EV manufacturing and exports

Ford seems to be looking again at the India market for production as the central government, in a bid to promote electric vehicles (EVs), woos global auto majors with its production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme.   

The Centre had recently said that 20 companies, including four-wheeler and two-wheeler manufacturers, along with newbie Ola Electric, have been selected to get incentives under the PLI scheme for the auto sector in the country.

Future of electric vehicles in US, China and Europe

E-cars in the US, China and Europe have a bright future — even in the near term — as automakers are looking to do away with cars propelled by internal combustion engines (ICEs). This comes as countries, across the world, plan to whittle down fuel emissions by introducing electric vehicles (EVs). 

EVs and hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) are climbing a steep incline. If this continues to be the trend, JP Morgan said that by 2025, EVs and HEVs could be around 30 per cent of the total number of vehicles sold.

MG E230 set to be among India’s cheapest electric cars at less than Rs 10 lakh

British motoring brand Morris Garages (MG) is gearing up to develop an all-new electric vehicle (EV) — the small car MG E230 — that it plans to roll out globally and could soon become India’s cheapest EV at less than Rs 10 lakh (Rs 10,00,000).

As per the company’s plan, price-sensitive India could be among the first markets where the MG E230 would be launched.

Mazda to launch SUV 2023 CX-60 in Europe, Japan

Mazda is launching its SUV 2023 CX-60 in Europe, Japan and a few other markets. This CX-60 apparently is the firm’s first plug-in hybrid model and has the i-Activ AWD set up primarily driving the rear wheels.

The plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) version will be the maiden one to be rolled out and combines a 2.5-litre gasoline engine with an electric motor.

MG ZS electric SUV’s price starts at Rs 21.99 lakh

Morris Garages’ (MG’s) ZS electric vehicle (EV) SUV has just been rolled out in India and the price tag is somewhat steep — Rs 21.99 lakh (Rs 21,99,000) for the Excite, which is the entry-level variant. 

The price goes up to Rs 25.88 lakh (Rs 25,88,000) (ex-showroom) for the MG ZS Exclusive electric vehicle, the top variant.

Sony, Honda EV joint venture could roll out e-car by 2025

Sony and Honda have decided to set up a joint venture (JV) to develop, manufacture and sell electric vehicles (EVs) by 2025. The two companies have targeted to join hands by this calendar year.

As per initial reports trickling in, a JV called ‘New Company’ is set to be created to develop and commercialise electric cars. According to a joint agreement between the two companies, Honda will manufacture the first electric vehicle model to be developed by the two companies.

Toyota all-electric SUV bZ4X to have safer battery, give more mileage on single charge

Toyota Motor’s yet-to-launch all-electric SUV bZ4X will be the car giant’s first all-electric vehicle (EV) and the carmaker is gearing up to make its mass-market vehicle safer and economic on mileage. 

The bZ4X comes with a battery that lasts longer compared to rival electric vehicles, according to Toyota executives.
