Royal Enfield to sell ‘affordable’ e-bikes in global market | Kia launches India’s fastest EV charger

Royal Enfield may be developing a slew of “affordable” electric motorcycles, which it would set aside for the global market, and these electric vehicles (EVs) may also be sold in India while Kia has just rolled out India’s fastest EV battery charger.

But to make the e-bikes in India within the reach of the people, the prices should start from around Rs 3 lakh (Rs 300,000) and not any higher.

Royal Enfield new bike by 2025

The first bike would roll out in 2025 and it is likely that the motorcycles will fall in the affordable category, in the global context.

Royal Enfield to sell ‘affordable’ e-bikes in global market
Royal Enfield EV may be affordable.
Right now, Royal Enfield is seeing buoyant demand from the country’s market and it is coming up with more offerings for domestic buyers.

The bike company’s owner Eicher Motors is believed to be readying its Next-Gen Royal Enfield Bullet 350 in the country, after the success of its new Hunter 350 (350 cc).

These new electric motorcycles for the overseas market are likely to be based on a new platform altogether and would accommodate the electric powertrain as well as other components.

The bikes are in a nascent stage of development and may offer a cost-effective set up.

Royal Enfield would probably take advantage of the Modi government’s schemes that will significantly reduce the input costs for developing and manufacturing electric vehicles. This will help the brand price these bikes aggressively.

Eicher Motors is in the process of upgrading and expanding its portfolio in the country and is developing a number of products in the 350 cc-650 cc category for various markets.

There is buzz that Royal Enfield may be gearing up to roll out a new 450 cc bike in the year 2026. It is also planning to launch a second-generation J platform.

Codenamed the J2, this new platform would see the manufacture of a number of upcoming Royal Enfield bikes.

Eicher is likely to utilise a modified version of this platform to support its upcoming electric bikes.

The company is keeping mum so far and no official launch timeline for these Royal Enfield electric bikes has been given, though speculation is rife about a 2025 roll out.

Kia rolls out India’s fastest charger unit

South Korean auto giant Kia has rolled out India’s fastest EV charger unit in Kochi. The 240 kWh DC charger is located at Incheon Kia, which is the automaker’s dealership in Kochi.

Kia’s DC charger will not only be for Kia customers. In fact, any EV owner in and around Kochi can utilise the facility by paying a charge.

Last month, Kia rolled out its fastest charger unit (150kWh) in Gurugram (Haryana) for passenger cars.

The Korean company also announced that it would launch its first India-centric EV by 2025.

A senior Kia executive said the South Korean car company has just kick-started its electric vehicle journey in India.

“These are exciting moments for electric vehicles. We aim to make EV ownership aspirational, accessible and inclusive in India,” the executive added.

So with the launch of affordable e-bikes by Royal Enfield and the fastest charging battery unit by Kia, the Indian EV space is just beginning to get more exciting.
