TOP 3 interesting cars at the Auto Expo 2023 | Solar car Eva, Hyundai Ioniq 6, Maruti Suzuki eVX concept

The top 3 picks in the interesting cars’ list at the Auto Expo 2023 in Greater Noida (near Delhi) are as follows: Solar car Eva, Hyundai Ioniq 6 and Maruti Suzuki eVX concept (but not necessarily in that order).

Solar car Eva

India’s first solar car Eva, which looks like the Tata Nano, may take years to become popular as solar tech and infra are yet to come of age.

Eva has been developed by Pune-based electric vehicle (EV) start-up firm Vayve Mobility. Eva has been set aside for urban commuters with a seating capacity for two adults and a child.

Buyers of the Eva can opt for a solar roof panel.

The Eva electric car is under testing and may be ready by early 2024 for roll out.

Buyers can opt for a solar roof panel that can be fitted on the car’s roof. The solar roof boosts charging when the Eva is placed isolated in the open. The solar roof is set to be sold separately.

Eva comes with a 6kW liquid-cooled electric motor that can belt out 16hp power and 40Nm peak torque. The electric or solar car is powered by a 14 kWh battery pack.

According to the start-up, the Eva can go up to 250 km on a single charge. It offers a 15A socket for charging.

So far as connectivity goes, Eva has Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, which is commendable. The solar car also comes with IP68-certified powertrain.

Hyundai’s Ioniq 6 rivals Tesla Model 3

Hyundai’s Ioniq 6, which was featured at the Auto Expo 2023, is equipped with a 77.4 kWh battery pack.

This paves the way for a driving range of over 610 km on a single charge. This Hyundai EV rivals the Tesla Model 3.

With the Ioniq 6, Hyundai plans to roll out over 30 zero-emission vehicles globally.

Hyundai Ioniq 6’s base version is equipped with a 53 kWh Li-ion battery that powers the rear wheels.

The EV offers an energy consumption of less than 14 kWh for every 100 km. This makes it one of the most energy-efficient electric cars globally.

Moreover, the Ioniq 6 has a low-drag coefficient and improved efficiency, which boost its range and performance.

The car comes with RWD and AWD variants and the dual-electric motor paves the way for a combined power output of 325 PS and 605 Nm. The Hyundai EV can touch from 0 to 100 km an hour in just 5.1 seconds.

The high-performance N variant of the Ioniq 6 will also come to India in the near future.

The Ioniq 6’s features include a floating display with a 12-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity.

There are a host of modern comfort and convenience features, advanced driver-assistive systems and charging tech.

The Ioniq 6 can charge up to 80 per cent in about 18 minutes using a 350 kW DC fast charger and supports V2L function.

It may take a few years before Hyundai brings in the Ioniq 6 into India but the US launch may be expected within two years.

Maruti Suzuki eVX

At the Auto Show 2023, Maruti Suzuki India has unveiled its eVX concept electric SUV, which bears resemblance to the Tata Motor Avinya concept EV.

Maruti Suzuki eVX, an EV, may be
going into production soon.

This was a surprise move by Maruti Suzuki, as the company — like Toyota Motor Corporation — did not want to dive directly into electric vehicles but wants to adopt the interim route of hybrid vehicles before its final destination of EVs.

But it seems that it may take some big steps towards migrating to EVs with the eVX, in maybe, a few years from now.

The eVX, a mid-sized electric SUV concept, has been designed and developed by Suzuki Motor Corporation and would be propelled by a 60kWh battery. It will have a 550 km driving range on a single charge.

This range is commendable, considering the eVX’s probable starting price of Rs 25 lakh (Rs 25,00,000).

Unlike many other cars that generally do not go into production after the concept stage, the eVX is believed to be almost being mass produced soon and may hit the road around mid-2025.

It is a Grand Vitara-sized electric SUV that comes with futuristic styling.

E-Vroooom’s views

So, we see the solar Eva, Hyundai Ioniq 6 and the Maruti Suzuki eVX as some of the most interesting cars at the Auto Expo 2023 but, according to us, the Ioniq 6 would be in third place (8.6/10), Eva in second (8.8/10) and eVX the topper (9/10) as Maruti’s plan of transforming into a pure EV firm would be interesting to watch (as it is not too keen to turn into an electric player right now).
