With XUV400, XUV700 launch plans, Mahindra readies to take on Tata

The Mahindra XUV.e8, which would be the all-new electric version of the XUV700, is likely to be launched around December 2024, while XUV400 electric’s booking is on, which shows that Mahnidra is ready for the big battle with Tata in India’s electric vehicle (EV) space.

The price range of the Mahindra electric XUV700 may be around Rs 20 lakh (Rs 20,00,000) and the large SUV would slug it out with the likes of Tata Harrier EV, which is set to be rolled out around the same time.

Range of the XUV700

The larger battery version of the electric variant will come with a range of up to 450 km (WLTP-certified), which we think is a tad less, given its price.

XUV700 exteriors

The Mahindra EV will most likely have a 2,750 mm wheelbase. The electric variant of the XUV700 may have the same exterior design as the internal combustion engine (ICE) version.

The electric vehicle has a fresh-looking front fascia with big LED headlights and there are also full-width daytime running lamps (DRLs).

At the base of the front bumper, below the grille, which has been concealed, are practical cooling vents.

Mahindra and Mahindra’s INGLO modular electric platform will be the foundation for the XUV700.

The XUV700 electric comes with fresh-looking aerodynamic wheels and a refurbished rear bumper.

Mahindra electric SUV’s interiors

The electric version of the XUV700 is equipped with a very large display panel, which comprises three 12.3-inch screens and occupies just about the entire dashboard.

In comparison, the ICE variant of the XUV700 comes with a super screen with dual 10.25-inch panels and the screen is considerably smaller.

However, the electric XUV700’s drive mode selector dial, steering wheel along with other components are nearly the same as the ICE variant.

The M&M twin peaks logo will be made of copper on the electric SUV, while it is silver for the ICE version.

The other changes are a new gear shifter and copper emblem, which is on the steering wheel.

XUV700 powertrain details

The INGLO platform of the XUV700 is capable of supporting batteries of high capacity — like the ones with 60 kWh and 80 kWh capacities.

The battery can do charging of up to 80 per cent in just about half an hour having a peak charging rate of 175kW.

As per the auto giant, the electric vehicle would be offered with an all-wheel drive (AWD) system having a dual-motor arrangement. It would belt out around 340-395 PS.

Moreover, there is a pact between M&M and Volkswagen (VW), which would provide motor vehicle parts to the former.

E-Vroooom’s views

With XUV400 and XUV700 launch plans, Mahindra could take on Tata Motors in India’s EV space, and as per initial response, customers seem very excited about the XUV SUVs, especially the XUV400, which could see a very good response, considering SUVs are becoming the preferred choice for Indian car buyers.
