Vietnamese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer VinFast is ready to begin production at its Thoothukudi plant in Tamil Nadu from Monday (August 4) and is set to become a serious player in India’s EV market.
This will be India’s first dedicated EV manufacturing facility set up by a foreign company.

Ahead of its launch, VinFast’s electric SUVs — VF6 and VF7 — are already generating strong interest from customers across India.
Dealers report high volumes of queries about vehicle performance, mileage, and pricing.
Around two weeks ago, VinFast had opened bookings for the two electric SUVs.
Strong dealer interest and network expansion
VinFast is entering the Indian EV market with a well-planned strategy. The company has already conducted a dealership meeting in Gurugram on July 8 and is launching retail outlets in multiple cities.
It aims to open 35 dealerships across over 27 cities by the end of 2025.
In Himachal Pradesh, the Devbhoomi Group plans to open three showrooms and install EV charging stations in 12 districts.
“People are asking about how the cars are made, performance, and range,” said a company executive.
Rising interest in South India also
In Kerala, where VinFast showrooms are still in early stages, the response has been overwhelming.
A dealership executive reported receiving over 1,500 queries in just two weeks after display models were introduced in Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram, and Kozhikode.
The company also plans to install about 100 EV charging stations across the state.
VinFast inaugurated its largest Indian showroom in Chennai on Saturday (August 2).
The outlet, promoted by Maansarovar Motors, was launched by Pham Sanh Chau, chief executive officer (CEO) of VinFast Asia.
“We want to offer a world-class EV ownership experience in India. Our goal is to combine sustainability, technology, and customer service to support a greener, smarter future,” Chau stated.
Digital marketing and young buyer interest
VinFast’s digital campaigns have successfully attracted young customers, especially in Andhra Pradesh.
A local dealer said many enquiries come from youngsters impressed by the SUVs’ bold design and smart features. “Everyone is now eagerly waiting for the final prices,” he added.

The company is planning to install 1,000–1,500 EV charging stations in the first phase.
VinFast India has also partnered with:
RoadGrid, myTVS, and Global Assure for nationwide after-sales support

E-Vroooom’s views
VinFast is making a bold and calculated entry into the Indian EV market, unlike Tesla.
With stylish and feature-packed electric SUVs, a strong dealer network, charging stations, and a focus on judicious pricing, the Vietnamese company is positioning itself as a serious player in India’s rapidly growing EV market.
