BYD’s luxury-focused Denza brand has rolled out the Denza Z9S in China, which combines long electric range, extreme performance and premium technology for the mid-to-large range sedan.
Starting at $37,600 (yuan 255,800), the new electric sedan is significantly cheaper than what its pre-sales pricing had suggested.

The Denza Z9S electric vehicle (EV) is positioned as a more compact alternative to the larger Denza Z9 and is available with both single-motor rear-wheel-drive and tri-motor all-wheel-drive configurations.
Its pricing also puts it close to the China-made Tesla Model 3, although BYD is targeting a more premium market with the Z9S.
Denza Z9S: Premium design with a sporty look
The Denza Z9S design combines a sleek sedan profile with sporty details.
The front features a sculpted hood, prominent air intake and split LED headlights, while a roof-mounted LiDAR sensor highlights its advanced driver-assistance technology.
The sedan is 5,090 mm long, 1,980 mm wide and 1,490 mm tall, with a 3,025 mm wheelbase.
It also offers a 120-litre front trunk, seven exterior colour choices and 19- or 20-inch wheels.
At the rear, slim taillights and an active electric spoiler give the Z9S a distinctive appearance.
Luxury interior packed with technology
Inside, the Denza Z9S takes a distinctly high-tech approach. The dashboard features a 17.3-inch central touchscreen, a 13.2-inch digital instrument display and a massive 50-inch head-up display.
Luxury touches include Nappa leather seats, a suede headliner and metallic trim.
A magnetic passenger-side panel can accommodate accessories such as tablets and storage cases.
Rear passengers also get a dedicated 7-inch control screen for adjusting climate, entertainment and seating functions.
The car is equipped with BYD’s God’s Eye 5.0 driver-assistance system, which supports city and highway navigation along with features such as Automatic Emergency Braking and Emergency Steering Assist.
Up to 1,100 km of CLTC range
The biggest headline is the Denza Z9S electric range. Depending on the configuration, the sedan offers CLTC-rated ranges of 780 km, 920 km and an impressive 1,100 km.
The claimed figures translate into around 632 km, 745 km and 891 km under WLTP testing, respectively.
The Z9S uses BYD’s second-generation Blade Battery, with capacities of 102.326 kWh and 122.496 kWh depending on the version.
Up to 1,194 HP and 0-100 km/hour in 2.68 seconds
Performance is another major selling point for this Chinese EV. The rear-wheel-drive version produces 370 kW (496 hp), while the tri-motor all-wheel-drive model delivers an enormous 890 kW (1,194 hp).
The performance variant can accelerate from 0 to 100 km an hour in only 2.68 seconds.
BYD’s e3 technology platform also brings rear-wheel steering, crab-walk capability and compass-turn functionality.
Moreover, the electric vehicle gets the DiSus-A intelligent air-body control system.
Denza Z9S prices in China
The Denza Z9S Flash Charge Premium costs yuan 255,800 ($37,600) and comes with a 102.326 kWh battery and 920 km CLTC range.
The Flash Charge Flagship is priced at yuan 275,800 ($40,600) and features a larger 122.496 kWh battery having a claimed 1,100 km CLTC range.
The top variant, the Denza Z9S e3 Flash Charge Performance, costs yuan 325,800 ($47,900).
It uses the 102.326 kWh battery, offers a 780 km CLTC range and delivers the full 1,194 hp through its tri-motor setup.

With its combination of long range, luxury features, advanced chassis technology and supercar-level acceleration, the Denza Z9S gives BYD another strong contender in China’s increasingly competitive premium electric market.
