Mahindra XEV 9S review | India’s next Big 7‑seater electric SUV

Mahindra has stepped boldly into the electric SUV segment with the launch of the XEV 9S, a full-size 7‑seater EV designed specifically for Indian families but will it be India’s next big electric SUV?

Priced from Rs 19.95 lakh to Rs 29.45 lakh (Rs 1.9 million to Rs 2.9 million), it promises the space of a large SUV, the efficiency of an EV, and the tech-rich experience modern buyers expect.

Mahindra XEV 9S review
The Mahindra XEV 9S offers much more
compared to its pricing.

Built on Mahindra’s dedicated INGLO EV platform, the XEV 9S is not a converted petrol SUV — it is an EV from ground up, offering better cabin space, range and ride quality.

Battery, range & performance

The XEV 9S offers three battery options: 59 kWh, 70 kWh and 79 kWh.

The top variant delivers an impressive 210 kW of power and 380 Nm of torque, accelerating from 0 to100 km an hour in around 7 seconds.

This makes it one of the quickest family EVs in its segment. Mahindra claims a maximum driving range of up to 679 km on the larger battery pack.

But real‑world numbers should fall between 450 and 500 km, depending on driving conditions.

With DC fast‑charging support, the battery can recharge from 20 per cent to 80 per cent in about 20 minutes, making long-distance travel far more practical.

Space, comfort & practicality

The XEV 9S has been designed to be a true 7‑seater. Thanks to the flat-floor layout of the INGLO platform, the SUV offers generous legroom and comfortable seating across all three rows.

The second row features wide seats, good recline angle, and optional ventilated functions on higher variants.

The third row is usable for adults on short drives and ideal for kids on longer journeys.

Adults may find it a bit inconvenient during long drives.

With the third row folded, the XEV 9S offers a spacious boot, complemented by a handy 150‑litre frunk for extra storage.

However, with all three rows in use, luggage space becomes limited — a common compromise in 7‑seater SUVs.

Features & technology

Tech-lovers will appreciate the triple‑screen setup inside the cabin: a digital driver display, a central touchscreen, and an additional passenger display.

Premium variants come with a 16‑speaker Harman Kardon audio system with Dolby Atmos, a panoramic sunroof, wireless charging, multiple drive modes and configurable ambient lighting.

The SUV also packs Level 2+ ADAS with features such as adaptive cruise control, lane assist, blind‑spot monitoring and driver‑drowsiness alerts.

These safety and convenience systems make highway driving smoother and safer.

Pros of the XEV 9S

Excellent value for a 7‑seater EV at this starting price

Strong performance and long usable driving range

Spacious and comfortable cabin, ideal for families

Loaded with modern tech, features and ADAS safety

Fast-charging support and low running cost compared to diesel SUVs

Cons of the XEV 9S

Real-world range will be lower than the claimed figure

Limited boot space when all three rows are in use

Lower variants miss many premium features

Home charging setup needed for maximum convenience

E-Vroooom’s views

The Mahindra XEV 9S is aimed at buyers who want a practical family vehicle without giving up the benefits of modern EV ownership.

It combines strong performance, ample space, premium features, and future‑ready electric technology at a competitive price.

For families considering a shift to electric without compromising utility, the XEV 9S stands out as a strong and sensible option and could become India’s next Big 7‑seater electric SUV.
