Mercedes-Benz CLA EV India launch on April 24: A new era for entry-level luxury electric cars

The Indian electric vehicle (EV) space is about to get a major upgrade with Mercedes-Benz CLA Electric all set to launch on April 24, and it could redefine what “entry-level luxury EV” means in India.

With bookings already open at a token amount of Rs 1.5 lakh (Rs 150,000), anticipation is building — and for good reason.

Mercedes-Benz CLA EV India launch on April 24
Mercedes-Benz CLA is set to redefine entry-level
electric vehicle segment.

This isn’t just another EV launch. It’s a strategic move that brings the luxury EV dream closer to a wider audience.

A more accessible entry into luxury EVs

Until now, owning a luxury electric car in India often required a significant financial stretch.

Models in the segment have largely been positioned at the higher end of the price spectrum. The CLA EV changes that narrative.

Expected to be priced between Rs 55 lakh (Rs 5.5 million) and Rs 60 lakh (Rs 6 million), it will sit below Mercedes-Benz’s existing electric lineup.

This positioning makes it one of the most approachable luxury EVs from the brand, appealing to buyers upgrading from premium petrol sedans or compact luxury SUVs.

In simple terms, it lowers the barrier without diluting the brand’s premium appeal.

Sleek design meets smart engineering

At first glance, the CLA EV retains its signature coupe-like silhouette — low, sporty, and elegant.

But look closer and you’ll notice key updates that reflect its electric DNA.

A closed-off front grille for improved aerodynamics

Illuminated star elements for a futuristic touch

Cleaner body lines designed for efficiency

Underneath, the CLA EV is built on Mercedes-Benz’s new Mercedes Modular Architecture (MMA) platform.

Unlike adapted EVs, this platform is purpose-built for electric mobility, offering better battery integration, optimised space, and improved energy efficiency.

Interior: Tech-forward and premium

Step inside, and the CLA EV continues its modern approach with a digital-first cabin.

Key interior features:

10.25-inch digital instrument cluster

14-inch central touchscreen with latest MBUX system

AI-powered voice assistant

Optional front passenger display

Wireless charging and multiple USB-C ports

Ambient lighting for a premium feel

The cabin blends cutting-edge technology with the comfort expected from a luxury badge.

It’s intuitive, connected, and designed for everyday usability.

Charging and performance: Built for real-world use

Range anxiety has always been a concern with EVs, but Mercedes-Benz aims to address that head-on with the CLA Electric.

Charging capabilities:

Up to 240 kW DC fast charging support

Around 400 km range added in just 20 minutes (CLA 250+ Long Range)

Nearly 320 km added in the same time (CLA 200 Standard Range)

Claimed range:

Over 700 km (WLTP) for the long-range variant

Around 542 km for the standard version

These figures position the CLA EV among the most efficient electric cars in its class, making it practical for both city commutes and long-distance travel.

Styling options for different buyers

Mercedes-Benz is offering two distinct styling packages to cater to varied preferences:

AMG Line (CLA 250+ Long Range): Sportier, performance-inspired aesthetics

Progressive Line (CLA 200 Standard Range): Elegant and understated luxury

This flexibility allows buyers to choose a design that matches their personality and driving style.

What this means for Indian EV market

The launch of the CLA EV signals a broader shift. Luxury EVs are no longer just aspirational products — they’re becoming realistic upgrade options.

With deliveries expected to begin soon after launch in April 2026, Mercedes-Benz appears confident about a smooth rollout.
