The race to build the perfect urban electric vehicle (EV) has taken an exciting turn with Vietnamese EV manufacturer VinFast unveiling the VF2 in Vietnam.
The VF2 is an ultra-compact electric city car that combines affordability, practicality and modern features in a package aimed squarely at first-time car buyers and city commuters.

The VinFast VF2 is a two-door, four-seater electric hatchback developed primarily for city driving.
Built as a premium version of the company’s Minio Green platform, the car targets young professionals, small families and buyers upgrading from motorcycles.
Its compact dimensions make parking and navigating narrow urban streets significantly easier than with conventional hatchbacks or SUVs.
Despite its size, VinFast has equipped the VF2 with a surprisingly practical cabin that accommodates four passengers while offering everyday usability for commuting and short-distance travel.
The company has also given the car a youthful design with SUV-inspired styling cues, helping it stand out in an increasingly crowded entry-level EV market.
Affordable EV ownership takes centre stage
The biggest highlight of the VF2 is undoubtedly its price. VinFast has priced the electric hatchback at 188 million Vietnamese dong (around $7,200), with the battery included.
In India’s context, this price is Rs 6.9 lakh or Rs 690,000.
That makes it one of the world’s most affordable electric cars from an established automaker.
Buyers will also receive complimentary charging benefits through VinFast’s public charging network for a limited period, reducing the cost of ownership even further.
By making battery ownership part of the purchase price, VinFast is simplifying the buying process while addressing one of the biggest concerns among new EV buyers.
Performance tailored for daily commuting
The VF2 isn’t designed for highway thrills — it is purpose-built for urban life.
The compact EV delivers a claimed driving range of up to 210 km on a single charge, making it ideal for daily office commutes, grocery runs and city errands.
A single electric motor powers the rear wheels, providing sufficient performance for stop-and-go traffic while keeping energy consumption low.
This practical approach reflects a growing trend among automakers to optimise EVs for real-world urban usage rather than headline-grabbing performances.

Although the VF2 has debuted in Vietnam, its concept has global appeal.
